Built in 1864, the Clifton Suspension Bridge crosses the Avon Gorge and was designed primarily for horse-drawn transportation. The 1830s design is amazing when you consider that today, over four million automobiles drive on it per year. From dusk the bridge is illuminated and there are firework displays on special occasions. Red Lodge + My Favorites
Dating back over 400 years, the Red Lodge was originally connected with the Great House where Queen Elizabeth I stayed. Later, it had unique purposes, such as a reform school for girls, which was set up by social reformer Mary Carpenter. The lodge has a stunning room made of oak and an interesting knot garden outside. Step back into 18th century Bristol and the average day of an important master and his servant. The six story townhouse, four of which are open to the public, is decorated with period features.
