Hengrove Play Park is a former airfield which has been converted into a free adventure playground for younger children. There is also a skatepark and wildlife zone.
Over 300 species of wildlife reside in 12 acres of splendid gardens at Bristol Zoo. Attractions include primates, lions, sealife and reptiles. There are many educational facets to the zoo and guided tours can be arranged.
Formerly the estate of the well-to-do Smyth family, Ashton Court is now publically owned parkland with plenty of leisure options including golf, equestrian pursuits and biking trails.
One of the oldest park areas in Bristol, Brandon Hill is located in the centre of the city. The hill provides a fabulous view of the area, and was once used as a defence post. Cabot Tower and a children's playground are within the park limits.
The Mendip Hills is range of hills comprised of limestone. A protected site, the Mendips are widely enjoyed for caving, climbing, abseiling and hillwalking. The impressive hills span from the Bristol channel to the middle of Somerset. Historically significant too, there are remains from Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic times as well as from the Iron Age and Bronze Age.
